The 2nd Annual Brain Power 5K is proud to benefit the Dr.
Marnie Rose Foundation for Brain Cancer Research at The University of
Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and pediatric initiatives at Children's
Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Brain Power 5K originated from a brain tumor survivor's will to make a
difference in the fight against brain cancer. Kelly Bolinger saw the
need in the Austin community for an event to honor those affected by
this disease. Combining her love for running, years of involvement in
races and desire to improve brain cancer research; the Brain Power 5K
was born. Funding from Brain Power 5K will go directly to the Dr. Marnie
Rose Foundation supporting brain cancer research at The University of
Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Foundation also provides funding to
improve the lives of the young patients at Children's Memorial Hermann
Hospital.
At MD Anderson, 3 clinical trials have resulted directly from their
contributions. The Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation has funded clinical trials
that have actually enabled many brain tumor patients to live 5-6 years
and more without recurrence and with a great quality of life.
At Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, The Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation
created and developed their Pediatric Palliative Care Program, opened
Marnie's Garden room, and helped to outfit the first pediatric Life
Flight helicopter. Now, in an exciting collaboration among UT Health
Medical School, Texas A&M, and MD Anderson, their funds are
pioneering amazing new research to treat pediatric brain tumors. Your
efforts are improving the lives of these children.
